The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is a federal department responsible for advancing the nation’s energy, scientific, environmental, and nuclear security goals. DOE supports research and technological innovation across universities, national laboratories, and industry, with major programs focused on energy systems, transportation, scientific discovery, infrastructure, and emerging technologies.
The MIT Transit Lab has collaborated with the U.S. Department of Energy on research examining the future of transportation funding in the context of the transition to electric vehicles. The work explores how changes in vehicle technology and fuel use may affect traditional transportation revenue sources and evaluates alternative approaches for building a more sustainable, resilient, and equitable transportation funding system in the United States.
